On April 8, 2000 an aspiring artist named Mark fell victim to violent aggression when five men attacked him and beat him with bestiality, leaving him almost dead. Because of this aggression, Mark has suffered severe brain damage and almost no memory of his past. In a desperate attempt to recapture his memories, Mark builds a miniature village that looks like World War II and which he calls Marwen. Unfortunately for him, the inner demons return to haunt him when he is asked to testify against his five aggressors.
