In a town in the northeast of England, where the mine has closed and people feel abandoned by the system, there remains one last pub called The Old Oak. Many young people have left and what was once a proud and prosperous community struggles to keep the old values alive. Houses are cheap and available, but anger, resentment and hopelessness continue to grow. The last Syrian refugees who have been welcomed by the British government in recent years will be directed there. How will the Syrians be received? And what will be the future of the last remaining pub in the village, The Old Oak?
