A professional assassin without an identity (Michael Fassbender) travels the world to kill people for hire with the utmost precision. His latest job takes him to Paris, where he brings his routine to the agenda: exploration and patience are part of his program, murder is imminent when the victim or target finally appears. But the murderer does not achieve his objective: by failing to hit his victim with the sniper rifle, a chain of events is set in motion that will pursue the murderer to his hidden home in the Dominican Republic. There is only one way out: he has to break one of his iron rules and carry out jobs that are personal: he has to kill those who persecute him. And so the well-known routine in various places around the world begins again: explore, be patient and kill.
