Starr constantly moves from one world to another; its neighborhood in the poor world, largely populated by colorful people like her and the rich world of high school where she learns, mostly populated by white people. The balance that is not easy to keep between these two worlds is shattered when Starr’s best friend is shot dead by a white cop just under his terrified looks. Now, she is under great pressure from both camps in her community and she has to keep her courage and her right back to face and sustain the truth regardless of the consequences.
