Inspired by true events, the film is centered on an atypical relationship between Ann Atwater, a highly visible and publicly appreciated civil rights activist, and C.P. Ellis, a leader of the dreaded Ku Klux Klan criminal group, which in turn struggles to eliminate segregation from schools, being the village that students of color are forced to learn under totally different conditions than white ones. The period in which these events take place is the summer of 1971, in North Carolina, where racialized animosities reach alarming levels. The incredible events that take place will change everyone’s lives forever.
