Running its events in Germany after the war, in 1946, the film has the focus of attention on Rachael Morgan who arrives in the ruins of Hamburg one cold winter to meet with her husband, Lewis, a British colonel who was in charge of rebuilding this war-torn city. But as they head to their new home together, Rachael is shocked to discover that Lewis has made a totally unexpected decision: the two will live in the same house with her former owners – a widowed German and her daughter. In a very busy atmosphere, the enemy and the pain leave room for passion and betrayal.
