Composer Steven Lauddem (Peter Dinklage) is creatively blocked and unable to finish the score for the grand opera that will mark his comeback in style. At the urging of his wife Patricia (Anne Hathaway), who used to be his therapist, he goes out in search of inspiration. In the process he meets an unusual woman named Katrina (Marisa Tomei), with whom he rediscovers his inspiration and develops another set of feelings that are more than he expected or imagined.
