The events take place in the 1930s, when the UK and London in particular underwent a period of profound economic recession. Michael and Jane have now become adults, and Michael lives with his three children and their housekeeper in Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael has a personal loss, the enigmatic daddy Mary Poppins reappears in the life of the Banks family and, through him, this difficult family tries to rediscover the simple things that bring magic and happiness to their lives. Mary teaches them to rejoice the beauty of magic and the wonders that are lacking in their lives.
