Brian (David Earl) is extremely lonely at his home in the Welsh valley, where no one else lives. He is a somewhat peculiar person and is dedicated to making strange inventions that are often useless. However, one day he finds a mannequin head and decides to make a friend. He will spend several days using various materials, including a washing machine, to invent Charles (Chris Hayward), a robot with its own intelligence. He will teach Charles to speak thanks to a dictionary and at first they will live happily together, but Charles is a curious robot and will want to know the rest of the world.
