Doctor Faraday comes from a poor family, his mother being the maid of an important residence, and he has built a doctor’s career in a small community where he is appreciated and respected. During the summer of 1948, he was called to provide medical care to a patient from Hundreds Hall, where his mother had worked in the past. The residence has been in the possession of the Ayer family for more than two centuries, but now it is in a visible decline, and its inhabitants, mother, son and daughter, are terrorized by something more than the daily problems. While dealing with the patient, Faraday is shocked to see how close and disturbing the story of the family is with his story.
