Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero (2018) follows the true story of Sgt. Stubby, the most decorated dog in American military history, and the lasting ties he had with the soldiers in the trenches of the First World War. Robert Conroy, a young soldier, is changing his life forever when he meets a small wandering dog while the men of the 102th Infantry Regiment train at Yale University. Conroy gives his new friend a name, a family, and a chance to engage in the adventure that will define a century. Despite the lack of official training of working dogs, the Stubby dog and his human companions find themselves in the French trenches and on the road to history. French Infanter Gaston Baptiste is friends with the two and accompanies them along their epic journey through harsh and incredible acts of courage. For his valuable actions, Stubby is recognized as the first dog in the history of the US Army, promoted to sergeant rank.
